Daystar University community including both students and faculty gather for the prayer day held at the Amphitheater, Athi River Main Campus on 5^th February 2026.

[5th February 2026]  On 5th February, the Daystar University Community gathered at both Nairobi Campus and Main Campus Athi River to observe the Day of Prayer which takes place each Trimester.

The theme for the January Trimester is “Anchored in Faith” drawn from the book 2Corinthians 5:7, which encourages both staff and students to align their faith with their thinking.

The Daystar Christian Fellowship (DCF) Praise and Worship Teams on either Campus led the congregants in vibrant moments of worship with their melodic voices echoing across the respective auditoriums and creating an atmosphere of God’s presence.

Those present at the Nairobi Campus included the Principal Nairobi Campus Prof. Michael Bowen, DVC-FAP Prof. Muturi Wachira, the Chief Finance Officer CPA Phyllis Mutua, the University Chaplain Rev. Miano. J. Weche, faculty, staff and students.

The Lead Pastor of the Nairobi Chapel Waiyaki Way Rev. Luke Jaoko delivered the sermon of the day titled “Ordinary people with extra-ordinary prayer.” He stated that God listens to people and individuals who are different. He shared three convictions of a bold prayer namely: God is accessible, not distant to our prayers; God is attentive, He hears to our cry; and God is able to answer our prayers and grant us the desires of our heart.

The Principal Nairobi Campus Prof. Bowen acknowledged that it is through prayer that Daystar University has been able to attain the success it is experiencing currently.

During the prayer sessions held across both campuses, the University community interceded for various needs, including the ongoing chapel construction.

Prayers were also offered for proposed development projects such as the construction of the School of Nursing Phase II and the School of Communication building, alongside other institutional developments.

Additionally, the community prayed for the good health and well-being of students and staff, financial provision and relief from fees-related constraints facing students, and divine protection against premature deaths within the University community.

The DVC-FAP Prof. Muturi Wachira urged the congregants to pray for the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, who was abroad at the time fundraising for student scholarships.

The Acting Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor–Academic, Research and Student Affairs (DVC-ARSA), Prof. Samuel Muriithi, attended Prayer Day at the Main Campus Athi River, along with other members of Management, Senate, staff, and students.  The Deputy Chaplain Rev. Josphat Kimacia ran the service supported by Campus Pastoral Assistant Ms. Tabitha Mutheu.

Addressing the congregation, Prof. Muriithi underscored the importance of unwavering confidence in God, urging students to cultivate Godly character modeled after the biblical example of Daniel.

He cautioned against moral compromise, unhealthy relationships, and drug abuse, calling upon students to remain steadfast in faith and integrity, even in moments of temptation.

Prof. Muriithi further challenged the University community to uphold Daystar as a center of spirituality and academic excellence.

 He made a rallying call to “Know God and make Him your friend,” and encouraged continued prayer for the institution and its development projects.

The speaker of the day at the Athi River Campus was Rev. Dr. George Mutuku, Lead Pastor of AIC Athi River, who delivered a sermon titled “Praying in Boldness.” He expounded on the different dimensions of prayer; confidential, clerical, and congregational, and urged the congregation to remain persistent in prayer, drawing from the biblical example of Elijah.

Throughout the day, the University community engaged in focused sessions of prayer for various needs, including the leadership of the institution, members of Senate, staff, students, and thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness and guidance over Daystar University.

The two prayer services culminated with the observance of the Lord’s Table, a sacred Christian ordinance that commemorates the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the Cross and affirms His Lordship over every believer.
