The Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro has appointed Mrs. Jane Wambua Yobera as the next University Librarian.

The appointment was announced at a formal ceremony held on August 16, 2024 at the Main Campus Athi River.

In the same ceremony, the VC also announced the appointment of Mrs. Charity Kironcho and Rev. Samuel Kungu as Deputy Librarians, Athi River and Nairobi libraries respectively.

Announcing the appointments, Prof. Laban Ayiro urged the Librarians to uphold the essential ingredients and values of excellence, transformation and servanthood, in fostering a successful and impactful library environment.
Prof. Ayiro called on the trio to strive to offer quality services to students and faculty in order to enhance their research and learning experiences, ensure that Library resources are up-to-date, diverse and accessible to all users, as well as develop programmes and initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the University community.

Additionally, Prof. Ayiro urged the Librarians to prioritize the needs of students and faculty by ensuring that they are approachable and responsive to their clientele queries and concerns.

“If you seek truth, goodness, and beauty, you will have conquered” he said, further adding that the three transdentals of truth, goodness and beauty are related.

The DVC FAP Prof. Muturi Wachira called on the new Library leadership to devolve library services to Schools. He further promised his support and that of the University.

“I have worked with the library staff and I can attest that this is a wonderful team” he said.

Prof. Wachira lauded the library team for catching the Vice Chancellor’s vision and running with it during the refurbishment of the library.
 
Speaking on behalf of the DVC ARSA, the Director of Academic Affairs Prof. Samuel Muriithi called on the University Librarian to position the Daystar as an excellent university in the world by bringing in resources and the right people.

“Call us to see what is happening in the world of academic. Help our University in terms of ranking. Make Daystar University a university of the 21st century. Be a peace maker so that people can approach you,” was the Ag. DVC’s ask of the new leadership in the library.

On his part, the Chief Manager, Human Resource Mr. Pius Muia, said the appointment of the Librarian and her two deputies will lead to stability of the University library. He also revealed that the University has confirmed and promoted seventeen members of Faculty and staff.

The appointment of the Librarian and her two deputies took effect from August 1, 2024.
