On Friday 7th January 2022, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro convened a meeting with staff and faculty for his new year address before the new semester can begin.
Prof. Ayiro anchored his new year message on Genesis 45:15-28 in a sermon he titled “The Tears of Joseph.”
He called on the staff to leave behind the conflicts of the just ended year and embrace love and reconciliation.
“When you do this,” he said, “you will cry tears of endearment with your colleagues, not pain.”
He used the analogy of the better angel and the evil angel to call on the members of staff to allow the better angel to be the standard of their hearts and shun the spirit of the evil angel which is often targeting division. Prof. Ayiro stated that he will be looking forward a community with emotional intelligence, honesty and gentleness towards one another.
The Vice Chancellor urged the staff to give their best in 2022 and embrace responsibility, keeping in mind that they are working for God. He also reminded them to be a community that shows gratitude. “When you show gratitude abundance comes your way,” he said.
In his commitment to improve the quality of service delivery, Prof. Ayiro stated that the priorities one has determine their levels of success. He added that to be better stewards of our students, it is important to meet their basic needs, taking note that there are many students from deprived backgrounds who are part of the Daystar community. “For us to ensure higher retention levels and graduation, we must take care of our students, he said.
